Ten students of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, have been selected for the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2025.

The global recognition is organised by the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and the Millennium Campus Network (MCN).

According to The Hope, the Millennium Fellowship is among the most competitive student leadership programmes worldwide, with an acceptance rate of less than seven per cent.

The programme brings together outstanding undergraduates from over 100 nations annually for a transformative leadership journey running from August to December.

Selected Fellows undergo intensive training in leadership, advocacy, and project management while implementing social impact projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNAI principles.

Reports indicate that nine of the ten selected Fellows are women, highlighting UNIMED’s commitment to promoting female leadership, inclusion and empowerment in higher education.

Speaking on the achievement, UNIMED Student Union President and Millennium Fellow, Class of 2024, Kalejaiye Abolaji John, said the recognition can be attributed to UNIMED’s dedication to raising globally competitive, socially responsible, and impact-driven leaders.

“The fact that nine out of ten Fellows are women is especially inspiring, it reflects the power of female leadership and the bright future of inclusive excellence we are building at UNIMED.”

Expressing her delight over the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, urged the students to continue striving for excellence.

“I am delighted at this development. This is indeed gladdening! It is exactly the direction we want to go. I want to see our students not just shining nationally, but also becoming globally relevant. I congratulate the new Fellows and encourage them not to rest on their oars,” she said.

The students selected are Boluwatife Ogunwole, Favour Chukwudebe, Gift Olubusola, Ifedolapo Oriade, Nifemi Obalokun, Olamide Oludoju (Campus Director), Oluwasekemi Osalade, Oluwatobi Muyiwa (Campus Director), Oluwatosin Ebiseni, and Temitope Sowole.
