About 103 inmates have gained freedom with three others discharged in Katsina on the grounds of good conduct, prolonged detention, age, and soundness.
The Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi granted these bails during a delivery initiative exercise on Wednesday. This was part of the first quarter of 2025 endeavors to decongest correctional facilities in Katsina.
The Chief Judge delegated his powers to High Court Judge, Justice A.B. Bawale, to supervise the activity at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Katsina New.
According to reports, 91 inmates also gained freedom during the first phase of the exercise at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Katsina Old.
Further, Justice Danladi praised the dedication and efforts of the state’s Nigerian Correctional Service as well as the correctional officers. He also remarked on the service delivery of the command, while enjoining them to keep up the good work.
Meanwhile, the Controller of Corrections, Katsina State Command, Umar Baba thanked the judiciary for its continuous partnership with the command.
Baba, who represented the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, noted that the Chief Judge did more than just free the inmates. He expressed gratitude to Justice Danladi for also providing welfare packages and relief items to the inmates.
Additionally, Baba stressed that the intervention was timely, emphasizing that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man.
However, he admonished the freed inmates to desist from criminal activities and maximize the skills they acquired while serving time.
