Tragedy struck in Kaltungo, Gombe State, as a 16-year-old girl, Maryam Samuel, was found dead in an apparent suicide.

The Gombe State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that Maryam’s body was discovered hanging from a tree on March 14.

According to police spokesman DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the village head of Kalarin reported the case to the Kaltungo Divisional Headquarters.

Investigators found no signs of violence on the deceased, and her remains were taken to General Hospital Kaltungo for further examination.

Preliminary findings indicate that Maryam had left home that Thursday to fetch firewood in a nearby bush.

“On March 14, 2025, at about 9 am, a case of suicide was reported at Kaltungo Divisional Headquarters.

“The deceased, Maryam Samuel, a 16-year-old girl from Kalarin Ward, was found hanging with a rope on a tree,”

“Family members were invited, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding her death”, the spokesperson said.
