The Nigeria President Bola Tinubu, has taunted the uprising opposition political party ahead of the 2027 election, African Democratic Congress, ADC, describing it as a “coalition of confusion.”
Tinubu disclosed this while speaking at the 14th meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, where Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda emerged as the party’s new national chairman.
According to reports, ADC has recently gained support from top opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Tinubu reacted and said it is not a bad idea for the opposition to abandon what he called “a sinking ship”.
“It’s not a bad idea to abandon a sinking ship and be absent from a coalition of confusion,” he said.
A report by Vanguard revealed that the president’s taunt elicited an immediate response from the opposition. Those who criticised him include the ADC, Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, and Mr. Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
President Tinubu at the meeting held at the Presidential Villa, in Abuja, however, asked the APC governors to reduce hardship and commit to development, security and grassroots mobilisation.
He lamented the level of hardship in rural communities despite allocations made available to state governors, advising them to ‘wet the grass’.
He also announced plans to establish a befitting national secretariat for the party in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Tinubu said: “We should leave a legacy of development. 23 governors are here to help identify land with the FCT Minister. We should form a committee of progressive governors to secure a suitable location for the new secretariat. I believe, without hesitation, the motion is carried.”
