The Akure Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate T.I. Ayodele has arraigned a 35-year-old man, Sunday Uvoh over alleged theft of a coil cable wire.

Following the arraignment by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, Uvoh was docked on a one-count charge bordering on stealing.

The prosecution, led by P.O. Nwafor, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 4, 2025, at about 7 pm in the Bolorunduro area of Ondo city.

According to the charge, Uvoh allegedly stole a coil cable wire valued at N200,000, property of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC.

The prosecution maintained that the alleged offence contravenes Sections 383 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

According to The Hope, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

While requesting time to review the case file, the prosecutor disclosed that the state would be calling two witnesses in the course of the trial.

Defence counsel, D.S. Omidera, who did not oppose the application, urged the court to grant the defendant bail in liberal terms, assuring that he would not jump bail and would provide reliable sureties.

In her ruling, Magistrate Ayodele granted Uvoh bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

She directed that the sureties must depose to an affidavit of means, submit two recent passport photographs, and present valid tax clearance certificates.

Following his inability to perfect the bail conditions, the defendant was ordered to be remanded in Amotekun custody.

The matter was adjourned till May 6 and 8, 2025, for trial.
