36 states in Nigeria allocate N214 billion to fight insecurity

35 states in Nigeria have reportedly set aside N214 billion in their 2025 budget for security and purchase of arms and equipment. According to reports, a breakdown of the budgets revealed that all the states approved the purchase of arms and equipment.

Abia state allocated N554.8 million for the purchase of security arms and equipment which will enhance the security of its residents. Also, Adamawa state allocated a larger sum of N3.82 billion for the protection of lives and properties in the state.

Other states also made allocations for security, including Edo with N349 million, Anambra with N2.73 million, and Bayelsa with N10.87 billion. Also, Amotekun, the regional security outfit received a significant portion of N1.79 billion, and Safe Corps with N459.62 million allocations.

The massive votes come following the recent increase In insecurity and kidnapping as citizens remain vulnerable to violence and insecurity. The increasing wave of kidnapping, robbery, and other violent acts in Nigeria compelled states to set up their safety measures.

Last month, more than 30 people lost their lives in several attacks across Ondo, Benue, and Nasarawa. Recently, enraged women paraded in Akure following the abduction of 9 surveyors and the killing of people living in the town.

Armed assailants reportedly stormed and caused destruction and bloodshed in communities of Aba Sunday, Aba pastor, Ademekun, and Aba Alajido. Authorities already recovered 14 bodies, reports suggested that 20 villagers died in the attack.

In Nasarawa, a communal clash claimed the lives of 7 people including a pregnant woman. The conflict began as a dispute between local farmers and herders which went out of control, with properties set ablaze.

However, the police arrested two suspects in connection to the issue, while setting up patrols to maintain order. Findings revealed that in the first three months of 2025, 2819 incidents of abduction were recorded With 3190 fatalities.
