The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented a compensation package to a victim of the 2023 election accident in Bauchi State.

This was made known in a statement made available on the official Facebook handle of INEC Bauchi on Thursday.

According to the statement, the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmud Yakubu, handed over the compensation during the commission’s weekly management meeting held on Thursday.

Yakubu, who was represented by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Bauchi, Muhammad Nura, said, “The INEC chairman presented a cheque of One Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦1,250,000) as insurance cover to a Collation Officer, Adamu Yusuf of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.

“The officer had an accident during the 2023 General Election, as a result of which he had one of his legs fractured.”

The statement noted that the compensation aligns with the commission’s policy of ensuring the safety and welfare of its staff during the conduct of elections.

The beneficiary, Adamu Yusuf, expressed gratitude to the commission for the support despite the late submission of his claims.
