Kebbi State Government has confirmed the increment of monthly cash allocation to tertiary institutions in the state. The Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar-Tunga through a statement on Wednesday disclosed the increase.
As revealed, government-owned tertiary institutions in the state will now receive N40 million in cash allocation monthly as opposed to N10.5 million.
With the new provision, the four state institutions; Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu, College of Health Science and Technology, Jega, Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari; and College of Advanced and Legal Studies, Yauri will now receive N10 million each monthly.
In the statement, the commissioner for education said the move is part of the Kebbi governor’s strong commitment to rejuvenating the tertiary education sector in the state. Additionally, Abubakar-Tunga revealed that the governor has approved N96 million for critical intervention at the College of Health Science and Technology, Jega.
More so, he added that N60 million from the fund will be committed to secure accreditation for seven important courses from the National Board for Technical Education. Some of the courses include National Diploma in Community Health, Environmental Health, Health Information Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Pharmacy Technician.

The rest of the fund according to the commissioner will help regularize the admission status of 556 students in the institution. Quoting the governor, the commissioner said the investment in the tertiary education sector is important to developing skills and fostering innovation and research.
Further, he added that a serious government must remain committed to financing the higher education sector.
Kebbi teacher bemoans government’s refusal to implement promotion incentive
It is worth mentioning that the Kebbi state government recently endured public criticism over unimplemented promotions. According to a report by Afrocover, a teacher in the state took to Facebook complaining about how the Nasir Idris administration has refused to pay newly promoted teachers in the state their due salary.
In an open letter to the state government, the teacher said he still receives a salary meant for those in level 9 despite his recent promotion to level 14. The situation, according to the teacher, has put most of his colleagues in a critical financial situation.
