Troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Northeast Nigeria, in collaboration with the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), have successfully cleared a major Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) hideout along the Rann–Gamboru Ngala axis, near the Nigeria–Cameroon border.

The operation, which was based on credible intelligence, resulted in the death of 10 terrorists during a fierce gun battle. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Markus Kangye, disclosed this in a statement on Monday night.

Kangye said the joint operation was strategically designed and executed to flush out remnants of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists still operating within border communities.

According to him, troops “masterfully” stormed the terrorists’ hideout between Rann and Gamboru, leading to an intense exchange of fire, during which 10 terrorists were neutralised due to the troops’ superior firepower.

“After the firefight, a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the scene, including some quantity of anti-aircraft ammunition,” Kangye said.

He explained that the operation was part of a broader military strategy to dominate the Southern Lake Chad axis and prevent cross-border movement of terrorists.

He added that several arms and ammunition were recovered from the terrorists, which are currently undergoing technical analysis, “while search efforts are ongoing to locate possible escapees and other terrorists’ hideouts in the area.”
