Labour Party has given its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, a 48-hour ultimatum to formally resign from the party. This was stated in a press release issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiorah Ifoh, on Thursday.

The ultimatum comes following Peter Gregory Obi’s  with the African democratic congress (APC). According to reports, Obi used the platform to contest the 2027 poll to unseat the president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu.

The Labour Party also gives coalition members in the Labour Party 48 hours to resign formally and leave the party. The party described members of the coalition as power mongers whose only interest was self and not for the people.

Obiorah Ifoh noted that those who mismanaged Nigeria were the ones gathered in the coalition.

He adds that roughly 70 percent of the Nigerian population are youths who are tired of gerontocracy deciding their fate. According to him, the coalition members are desperate individuals who want to continue holding onto power.

The statement added that the coalition cannot deliver the new Nigeria envisioned by the youths, making their dream impossible through it. Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party vows not to avail itself to individuals with divided allegiances between parties.

The party maintained that the associated factions are opportunistic politicians who want to revive themselves into the circle of power. Abure-led party pledges his allegiance to the country, promising to lead Nigerians in the right direction.

The party therefore urges all party members to remain loyal and keep the party structure intact ahead of future elections.
