Properties worth millions of naira at an industrial facility in Ibadan have been destroyed by a fire accident. According to  report, the incident happened on Sunday at Shril-Balaj Industrial Limited, in Olopemeji area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The recycling category of the facility, assigned for disused tyres, was affected, leading to a loss of properties worth millions of naira. Confirming the incident, the chairman of the Ibadan fire service, Maroof Akinwande, noted the incident was reported at around 7:07 am.

He identified the possible cause to be an explosive running machine, which sparked nearby combustibles and set the section ablaze. He maintained that other sections were saved from the devastating fire due to the prompt effort of the fire service.

Need for proactive measures as Oyo battles a series of Fire incidents

Fire incidents in Oyo State have increased, with several cases of shops gutted and properties destroyed in recent months. Earlier this month, a catastrophic fire destroyed five shops and a factory at two different locations in the state.

It was gathered that some happened at the state capital, Ibadan, whereas the foam factory incident occurred in Oyo town. In Ibadan, five out of 11 shops were destroyed, while equipment and property were affected in the foam factory fire incident

Confirming the incident, Akinwande disclosed that the probable cause could be traced to an electrical surge in the state. The chairman of the state fire service continued that both incidents happened on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

He maintained that fire service personnel were promptly mobilised to the scene after being informed through a telephone call. Speaking of the foam factory occurrence, firemen swiftly got to work, seeing the mattress company engulfed by fire.

Akinwande said the fire was curtailed at its outbreak point and stopped from spreading to other parts of the company. He expressed that simultaneous reactions from accumulated mattresses caused the fire outbreak in the company.

Fortunately, the warehouse was slightly affected as properties worth millions of naira were saved by the agency.
