Players and officials of Nigeria’s senior women’s football, Super falcons and basketball teams will smile to the bank ahead of their continental campaigns, following President Bola Tinubu’s approval of full allowances and match bonuses.

Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, confirming that all entitlements for the Super Falcons, from the start of the tournament up to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final on July 26 — have been fully released for immediate disbursement.

Dikko described the move as “policy in motion,” hailing it as a clear demonstration of President Tinubu’s renewed commitment to athlete welfare and effective sports administration.

“This is the kind of sports administration we are building, one rooted in dignity, trust and shared prosperity. Future generations would appreciate President Tinubu’s reforms in the sports sector,” Dikko stated.

He also stressed that timely and seamless payment of entitlements will now become a standard practice under the present administration.

The development will equally benefit Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are preparing for their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket outing in Côte d’Ivoire. Dikko confirmed they too will enjoy upgraded allowances and bonuses as part of the same initiative.

“This marks a shift in how we treat our athletes, ensuring they go into tournaments fully focused and motivated,” he added.
