The abductors of the Nigerian law school students have allegedly demanded for the ransom of the sum of N120 million from their victims. The demand of the kidnappers was confirmed to newsmen during a telephone conversation with a fellow law student at the institution, Damilare Adebola from the campus on Sunday.

Adenola said “ Six students of the Nigerian Law School have been reportedly kidnapped by suspected bandits while travelling to resume school after their court externship break.

“Some missing students have been identified as Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David.”

He added that the reports suggested that the students were kidnapped along the route between Wukari in Taraba state and a part of Benue state known for insecurity and frequent attacks on travellers.

Another source on the campus revealed that the gunmen had contacted the victims families to negotiate ransom payment.

The Adamawa State Police Command, Yahaya Suleiman, also confirmed the incident. He however clarified that the incident did not occur within Adamawa jurisdiction.

“The abduction did not occur inside Adamawa State. I will encourage you to contact the Benue State Police Command for more details,” Suleiman said.

He also assured the public that both commands were working closely to secure the safe return of the students.

“We cooperate not only with the police in other states but also with other sister agencies to ensure that those coming into Adamawa are safe, without harassment or intimidation.

At the time of writing this report, no statement has been issued by the institutions involved.

More details on the incident

Recall that six students of the Nigerian law school, Yolanda campus were kidnapped on their way back to campus on Saturday night. The students were on their way to resume academic activities at the campus scheduled to reopen today (Monday) following their court externship break.

They were reportedly travelling in a vehicle operated by AJ Dan Pullo Transport Company, a commercial operator based in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The Wukari-Benue axis, where the kidnapping is suspected to have taken place, has long been flagged as a high-risk corridor due to recurring incidents of abduction and violent crime.
