The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called on National Youth Service Corps members and corps employers across the state to embrace the ideals of patriotism, productivity, and national unity as they contribute to shaping the future of Nigeria.

Governor Mutfwang, represented by the state commissioner for youth and sports, Mr. Musa Ibrahim made the call during the formal opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch “B” Stream I corps members held on Friday, August 1, at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Waye Foundation, Doi-Du, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In his address, the governor, represented by the state’s commissioner of youth and sports, Honourable Musa Ibrahim congratulated the newly deployed corps members on the successful completion of their academic journeys and described their mobilisation for national service as a significant opportunity to contribute to national development.

He urged them to embrace their host communities, learn from their diverse cultures, and build relationships that cut across ethnic and religious lines. He noted that understanding local languages could help foster genuine connections and respect, adding that language is a tool that builds trust and bridges.

Mutfwang further assured the corps members that their safety and welfare were a priority for his administration, noting that the state government had strengthened its collaboration with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and secure environment throughout their service year.

The governor also reminded the corps members of their role as ambassadors of unity and agents of progress, stressing that their patriotism, creativity, and resilience were crucial to national development. He encouraged the Corp members to take advantage of opportunities available in the state, especially in agriculture, technology, and entrepreneurship.

In the same vein, the NYSC State Coordinator in Plateau, Mr. Jonathan I. Yavala, commended the corps members for their enthusiasm and discipline since arriving at the camp. He described the orientation course as a foundational phase designed to prepare them mentally, physically, and emotionally for the responsibilities ahead.

Yavala, who gave the welcome address during the ceremony, noted that the orientation programme includes physical drills, leadership training, lectures, cultural displays, and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, all aimed at building a self-reliant and disciplined corps population.

He assured the corps members of a rewarding and secure experience in Plateau State, describing the state as a peaceful and hospitable place known for its natural beauty and cultural diversity.

“I urge you to fully participate in all camp activities, embrace leadership opportunities, and build relationships that may last a lifetime,” Yavala added.

The event was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, representatives of security agencies, camp officials, and other stakeholders. The orientation course, which commenced on July 30, will run until August 19, 2025.
