Over two weeks after the death of the prime suspect in the gruesome kidnapping and killing of two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), the Ondo State Police Command has yet to offer any official explanation regarding the circumstances that led to his demise.
The suspect, whose remains was confirmed by the Students Union Government of AAUA, reportedly died while in police custody during.
Despite initial arrests announced by the police in connection with the killing of the students, who were earlier declared missing before their bodies were discovered.
Meanwhile, the Council of Past Presidents of the Adekunle Ajasin University Students’ Union has released a statement, addressed to the Inspector General of Police, the Ondo State Attorney General, and other relevant authorities, demanding immediate and accountable action.
In the letter, signed by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Olugbenga Julius Adeniyi, and General Secretary, Ogunade Adebola Oluwakayode, the group described the handling of the case as “nonchalant” and called for five specific actions aimed at ensuring truth, justice, and closure for the victims’ families and the student community.
Among their demands, the Alumni body of seeks a detailed explanation from the police on what transpired before and during the students’ abduction and subsequent death.
In addition, the body of the former president demanded an independent and certified autopsy report on the deceased suspect to determine the exact cause of his death.
Also among their demands is comprehensive financial audit of the late students’ bank accounts, covering transactions before, during, and after the period they were missing.
Furthermore, the body asked for a thorough review of the suspect’s financial records, including any account activity during custody and after his reported death.
Furthermore, full disclosure of any transactions that may have occurred during the specified periods, including the identities of recipients involved in such transfers was requested.
The Council stressed that failure to act on these demands would only heighten distrust in the justice system and reinforce fears of a possible cover-up.

The statement also questioned the continued silence from the police hierarchy and condemned what it described as the lack of urgency in delivering justice.
“As stakeholders, we cannot afford to remain silent while justice is being delayed or possibly derailed. The families of the deceased, the student body, and the entire public deserve answers,” the statement read.
It would be recalled that the two murdered students were reportedly abducted under unclear circumstances and were found lifeless days later. The incident was followed closely by the discovery of another female student who was killed by her boyfriend, a resident of the community.
The wave of violence has led to multiple statements and ultimatums from the Students’ Union Government, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and now the Council of Past Presidents, all demanding urgent intervention and improved security for students.
However, as of press time, the Ondo State Police Command has not issued any official statement regarding the suspect’s death or responded to the latest demands made by student stakeholders.
