The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has foiled the terrorist attacks on Borno troops through coordinated intelligence and surveillance. In a statement, the PRO director, Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed that the operation was carried out earlier today, following credible intelligence.

He revealed that several terrorists were neutralised due to the establishment of air components that identified fleeing insurgents. The Air Commodore added that the swift response of the troops restored order and calmness in the area.

Following this, he reaffirmed the force commitment to providing air support, safeguarding troops and neutralising threats. At present, details on the specific number of insurgents killed during the operation were not provided.

Rann, a local government area in Borno, has remained a target of intermittent attacks by non-state militants.  The operation is part of the Nigerian military effort to dismantle remaining insurgent households in the state.

Before this, the Nigerian army suppressed an extremist strike, killing at least 60 boko-haram militants in the north eastern part of Borno state. Reports say the terrorists attacked troops from sector one’s 26th task force at one of the state military bases.

However, the militants were attacked and neutralized through a simultaneous operation involving land and air assault. The militant group is active in Chad, Niger, and northern Cameroon, but is based in the. north-eastern part of Nigeria.

Active since the early 2000s, they have been responsible for mass terrorist attacks since 2009, claiming thousands of lives. Presently, over 13,000 terrorists have been killed in two years since the current president’s administration, Bola Ahmed Tinubu
