Nigeria is expected to battle with thunderstorms and rain from Monday to Wednesday across the country. This was disclosed by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) on Sunday in Abuja.

According to it, morning thunderstorms and rainfall are expected in the Northern region, like Sokoto, Taraba and Adamawa states. The agency also envisaged flooding in parts of Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto states.

At daybreak, the agency forecasts light rains over Niger, FCT, Plateau and other states in the central region. Cloudy skies are anticipated in states like Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom and other southern region states, with intermittent rains in the morning.

Enugu, Edo, Ekiti, Osun and Abia are predicted to be affected later in the day by the agency. Moderate rains with morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, and Taraba on Tuesday.

The bureau also envisaged rainfall in most parts of the region later in the day. On Wednesday, rainstorms and lightning storms are expected over the entire region during the morning/ afternoon hours.

According to it, states like Oyo, Ogun, Edo and other states in the southern region will experience rainfall in the morning. The agency urged states with high flood risks to activate the emergency response system, warning residents not to drive under heavy rain.

It also advises farmers to refrain from applying fertilisers before the rain, to avoid leaching of nutrients.

The agency continued that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision, adding that electrical appliances should be disconnected from electrical sockets.

Airline operators are encouraged to get airport-specific weather reports from the agency for effective planning in their operations. Furthermore, it calls on citizens to stay informed through weather updates by visiting the NIMET website.
