Two students from Niger Delta University have lost their lives in a collision between a truck and a tricycle in Bayelsa state. Other passengers of the tragic tricycle are critically injured due to the accident, which happened on Wednesday.
Residents of the area disclose that absence of road signs is the major factor behind accidents in the area. Reports say the truck sped around a bend in the road, lost control and hit the tricycle at high speed.
A witness reported that the truck driver was moving too fast and realised the danger when it was already too late. He continued that the Keke had no chance of escaping because the tipper was already close to it.
Good Samaritans rushed to the scene to save survivors as the tricycle was damaged beyond recognition. Those injured have been taken to a medical centre in Yenagoa, while the corpses have been evacuated to a nearby morgue.

Following this, he called for strict traffic enforcement by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Also, he urged the state police command to intensify patrols and conduct safety checks on heavy-duty vehicles.
Another resident, Ebike Elain, warned that more accidents will happen if relevant authorities do not take strategic measures. Yenagoa/Amassoma road is the most dangerous road in Bayelsa state due to its number of accidents in a year.
An ambulance is always dispatched on the road by the Federal Road Safety Commission for quick response in emergency cases. The ambulance is stationed at Tombia Community or the roundabout leading to Agudama-Ekpetiama Community.
