The Anambra State Police Command has foiled separate robbery attempts, recovering two suspected stolen vehicles in Awka and Oba within 24 hours.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incidents in a statement issued on Saturday, noting that the prompt response of operatives frustrated the criminals’ plans.

According to Ikenga, operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Awka, recovered a Lexus ES 350 along Parkers Road around 10:10 p.m. on Thursday after four armed men dispossessed a motorist of the vehicle on Ifite Road, Amaenyi.

“The hoodlums, who operated in an unregistered tricycle, blocked their victim and forced him to abandon his car. However, our patrol team gave them a hot chase, which led to the recovery of the Lexus,” he said.

In another operation, police officers from the Oba Division recovered a black Lexus RX 300 jeep abandoned near Mummy Hotel on the Owerri–Onitsha Expressway in the early hours of Friday.

“On receiving information from residents about a suspicious vehicle, our men moved swiftly to the scene. The vehicle, with registration number Anambra – AWK 31 DU, was towed to the station for safekeeping while investigation is ongoing,” Ikenga explained.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives and stressed the importance of community support in combating crime.

“The Commissioner of Police appreciates the good people of Anambra for their timely and useful information. Effective collaboration between the police and the public remains a key strategy in the fight against crime,” the PPRO stated.

Ikenga assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits behind the foiled robbery attacks.
