The Indian police in Kozhikode city have confirmed the arrest of eight Nigerians suspected of drug trafficking. According to the police, the suspects played “key roles” in a bigger drug syndicate said to be operating across India.
As revealed, the Kozhikode police, while working alongside the state police, also uncovered a synthetic drug production unit in Gurugram, Haryana.
The police also secured digital evidence from mobile phones, messaging apps, and bank accounts which was useful in tracking down two suspects and their locations in Haryana and Delhi.
The police, upon receiving a tip-off, raided a “drug kitchen” in Gurugram, and arrested eight suspects, consisting of six Nigerians.
During the operation, about 1.60kg of Sulfa, 904g of cocaine, and 2.34kg of raw cocaine were allegedly recovered.
The police added that the suspects have bases across the cities, outside Kerala where they distribute drugs.
While reacting to this, a senior officer of the state-level anti-narcotics special action force said, “Local drug pushers with interstate connections are suspected of playing a key role in encouraging these foreign nationals to supply narcotic substances within Kerala and neighbouring states.
“Call detail records of some local pushers already confirm this. We have also identified some of the kingpins behind these interstate and international networks.”
The constant arrest of Nigerians abroad has raised concerns at home and abroad. This, especially after recent violence against Nigerians in neighboring countries.
Recall, earlier this week, not less than seven Nigerians were arrested in India over alleged drug trafficking.
