The Federal Roads Safety Corps in Zamfara has declared plans to enforce the use of speed-limiting devices by all kinds of vehicles. This is contained in a statement by the Command’s Public Education Officer, Aliyu Isah, in Gusau, on Thursday.

According to the command, the decision followed reports of the reckless nature of large truck drivers passing through Zamfara. Isah revealed that most often, the trucks are overloaded or have mixed loading and are traveling at high speeds.

The command emphasized the need for motorists to adhere strictly to the road safety laws, including activation of the speed-limiting devices. Furthermore, they stressed that all other traffic violators would not be spared during the enforcement patrol.

He warned motorists driving along the Zamfara-Sokoto highway without proper registration or those covering their number plates to avoid prosecution.

Previously, the Corps had urged motorists to reduce speed during the ’ember months’ to reduce unnecessary road crashes. They stressed the need for motorists to refrain from excessive speed, which could lead to fatalities through crashes.

Following this, the bureau announced that the unit would apprehend road traffic offenders, including those involved in  mixed loading of goods, animals and human beings.

The Sector  also emphasised that motorists who move without proper registration would also be apprehended.

In addition, the Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, advised drivers to cooperate with the corps for their safety in the state. He explained that while speed may be thrilling, it remains deadly, claiming lives faster than even the most fatal diseases.
