Unknown gunmen have reportedly murdered a chieftain of the PDP in Akwa Ibom, identified as Sylvester Ntefre.
The unfortunate incident unfolded at his country home in Ekparakwa in OrukAnam Local Government of Akwa Ibom State.
According to reports, the gunmen stormed the residence of the PDP chieftain around 8am last Sunday, leaving their Toyota jeep after the killing.
In a report by a source within the community, the initial intent of the gunmen was to kidnap the PDP chieftain from his compound. The source further that the gunmen stormed the residence of the chieftain in a black jeep. Afterward, they forced the PDP chieftain outside of his apartment and shot sporadically to scare people away.
She said the repeated gunshots attracted the attention of the youths in the community. They consequently raised the alarm against the gunmen making the whole community to chase them.
The source also said that the gunmen had already kidnapped the victim to a nearby bush where he was shot dead. The youth gave them a hot chase, which forced then to abandon their vehicle.
Later, the youths discovered the dead body of the chieftain lying in a pool of his blood.
However, the public relation officer of Akwa-Ibom state, Odiko MCdon, says such information is yet to get to him. He, however, promised to take necessary action when briefed.
