Nigeria’s Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) through its weekly publication from the Registrar’s office; has directed all of its approved CBT centers to increase their service charge for forthcoming candidates.
According to the publication, candidates interested in writing the board’s mock examination would now be paying the new service charge of 2,000 naira, against the former 1,400 naira.
The board claims that the unexpected rise in the price of diesel, coupled with other energy related challenges; are why the increment is necessary.
In addition, the publication further clarifies that the above mentioned amount applies to students who would be writing the mock examination; while those who show no interest in it would only pay 1,000 naira.
The increment, according to JAMB, would help the centers make sufficient preparations concerning all the equipment they need to provide a comfortable, safe and conducive environment for the students.
Similarly, the board urges students to decide early whether or not they want to do the mock examination before registering. And that there would be no exemption for anyone not to pay the said amount, as long as they have shown interest; even if they don’t end up coming to write the examination.
However, the board through the publication also wishes to reiterate its plan to permanently delete some centers. This is directed to those who were suspended last year for not meeting up with the required standards; but later absolved to participate in this year’s process and still fail to meet up.

Furthermore, the board asserted that the lowest prerequisite for approval includes a well equipped facility; with laptops of at least 14-inch monitors. Without these their applications for approval as CBT centres would not get the board’s approval.
The other requirements, according to the board, would be published in time to come; and they will be made available to the public.
