Without giving a substantial reason, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has sacked every member of the State Executive Council. The axing also affected the Chief of Staff, Emeka Woke, and Senior Special Assistant on protocol, Harold Koko.
According to a statement by the special assistant to Governor Wike on media, Kelvin Ebiri revealed the development. Rumors have it that the sack is a result of the aspiration for the governorship seat by a part of the executive council.
In addition, Governor Wike praised the council for their tireless effort toward ensuring the smooth running of the administration. He further gave them his blessing in their respective quest in the future.
Also, he beseeched the members of the council to transfer relevant documents to top officials in their jurisdiction. The Governor who is currently vying for Presidency will end his administration as Governor of Rivers state by next year.
Recall that the Governor recently suspended the Local Government Chairman of Port Harcourt LGA, Victor Ihunwo. According to a statement from the state commissioner for Information, Paulinus Nsirim. Wike accused the chairman of illegal tax collection. The recent sack of the State Executive Council further fuels the controversies surrounding the regular sack of officials by the Governor.
As a big wig in the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), many have tipped Wike to clinch the party’s ticket. With the PDP presidential primaries around the corner, Wike leading the race for a good outing.
