According to reports, the Ondo State chapter of All progressive Congress is now engulfed in crises over the alleged ineligibility of party delegates.
A local media on Thursday reports that the election of serving nominated members of the executive branch of the state government to serve as representatives in the upcoming APC Presidential Primary has intensified the pressure within the party.
Section 83(12) of the electoral act provides “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting a delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the nomination of candidates for any election”.
However, a document embodying the names of delegates from Ondo State revealed that two serving commissioners including a serving head at Universal Basic Education Board were listed.
The present state commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa from Ile Oluji Okeigbo LGA made the list. In a Document acquired by Vanguard, Wale’s name emerged on top with serial number 1. His colleague, Mrs. Lola Fagbemi, commissioner for Commerce and Industry is also part of the three delegates from her local government.
Also, Ondo’s current SUBEB chairman, Victor Olabintan bags the second name on the list from Akoko South West.
As of press time, Ilaje/Ese Odo progressive union has petitioned APC national chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu with copies addressed to the state governor and President Mohammadu Buhari.
The petition requests the party leadership to act promptly and eliminate the appointment of the earlier mentioned politicians.
In an analysis by an Abuja-Based legal practitioner, the provision of the electoral act requires additional examination as a result of occurrences within the society.
According to him, the process is as important as the outcome. His question remains whether the earlier mentioned politicians were appointed as delegates for convention purposes or were just listed.
