According to reports, not less than 400 delegates of the People Democratic Party in Ogun State have taken Independent National Electoral Commission to the Federal high court in Abeokuta.
This was as a result of alleged disenfranchisement in the recently completed primaries of the party in Ogun state.
PDP gubernatorial hopeful in the state, Oladipupo Adebutu, and three governorship aspirants, Segun Showunmi, Jimi Lawal, and Abodunrin were documented as respondents. According to the suit, about 400 of the certified delegates were shut off from voting on May 30.
The plaintiffs, Taiwo Idris, Kehinde Akala, Ayinde Monsuru, and others in a suit carrying number FHC/AB/CS/87/22 sued for themselves and on behalf of over 400 delegates who originated from the April 30 ward congress.
The delegates were reportedly removed to an affidavit before the court except for the delegates from Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo North Local Government Areas.
However, the delegates appealed to the court to nullify the governorship primaries as aggrieved delegates are supports Jimi Lawal who would like to cast their votes for him.
The plaintiffs alleged that 400 out of the 728 elected delegates were not allowed to participate in the election. The suit strived for an order for PDP to perform a new congress where the primary election would be re-conducted.
In addition, the court has awarded an order for substituted service to all parties and set the return date to June 22, 2022.
