A popular American R&B star, Robert Sylvester, identified as R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for racketeering and other crimes.

The celebrity had been in police detention since his arrest in 2019.

The 55-year-old was sentenced by a federal judge on Wednesday, June 29, in Brooklyn, New York.

Judge Ann Donnelly sentenced Mr. Kelly to 30 years imprisonment and an additional five years of supervised release and a $100,000 fine.

He was convicted in September for racketeering and sex trafficking charges stemming from a decades-long practice of recruiting and grooming girls and young women for illegal sex.
