Suspected terrorists sabotaged the convoy of cars carrying the presidency’s advance team of security guards, protocol, and media officers on Tuesday. The attack was said to have taken place near Dutsinma Katsina State leaving two police officers dead. The convoys were traveling ahead of the President to his hometown Daura for Sallah.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu ascertained the incident in a statement. According to the statement titled “Gallant presidential guards repel attack on advance team ahead of President’s visit”, the terrorists started firing on the convoy from an ambushed position but were resisted by the Military, Police, and DSS personnel escorting the convoy.

“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff, and vehicles made it safely to Daura,” he said

However, in a separate statement issued by Katsina State Police Commissioner, Gambo Isah confirmed that Dutsinma Police Area Commander Aminu Umar and one other were killed in the attack. Gambo didn’t include in his statement that the attack was on the presidential team.

According to the statement, a troubled call was received that terrorists numbering about 300 had attacked Aminu Umar and his team while on clearance operation in Zakka Forest, Safana local government area, Katsina state. The area commander and another police officer lost their lives during the attack. The commissioner conveyed his sympathy to the family of the deceased on behalf of other officers.
