Members of the Joint Action Committee of Non-Academic Staff Union and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, University of Lagos chapter have bemoaned the suspension of its strike.

According to reports, members of the joint action committee have distanced themselves from the decision of its national executives. Currently, the aggrieved members are protesting to illustrate their displeasure over the decision. They complained about how the national executives didn’t engage them properly before taking action.

Recall that on Saturday, the National leaders of NASU and SSANU suspended the ongoing strike action. Accordingly, the national executives ordered their members to resume today. The decision sparked outrage among their members in UNILAG. As part of their demands, the members called for the removal of the General Secretary Adeyemi Peters and Mohammed Ibrahim of SSANU.

During the demonstration, the members emphasized that they were not Civil servants. Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee of the two bodies declared the national industrial action around March 27. The decision to call it off almost six months after the declaration came surprisingly to their members in UNILAG. In their defense, the members argued that their executives didn’t hold any congress before suspending the strike.

Furthermore, they added that it’s unconstitutional for the executive leaders to suspend the strike without congress. Meanwhile, former Chairman of SSNAU, UNILAG, Mr. Oriwaye Adefolalu, also criticized the decision. He described the leadership of the SSANU as “deceitful leaders.”
