The Court of Appeal during its sitting In Abuja on friday has mandated members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to suspend their eight-month-old strike and resume back to work immediately.

The appellate court gave the order on Friday, October 7, 2022, after an application by the ASUU seeking permission for it to appeal against the decision of the National Industrial Court (NIC) which asked the striking lecturers to resume duty.

Recall that the union began the strike on February 14, 2022, across all public varsities.

The Court of Appeal in its ruling granted ASUU “conditional leave to appeal the order of the Industrial Court” insisted that ASUU must obey the order of the lower court with effect from today, October 7.

The 3-man panel which was led by Justice Hamman Barka, noted that for ASUU to file it’s notice of appeal within 7 days, it must show evidence that it’s members have resumed work on October 7.
