The current governor of Kogi State Ahmed Usman Ododo showed solidarity with Yahaya Bello in the ongoing fraud case with his arrival at the former governor’s residence.

Earlier today, officials from the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) surrounded the residence of Yahaya Bello over an alleged N84 billion fraud case. In the early hours of today, the reason behind the siege was unknown.

However, as the issue continued to develop, reports established that officials of the Anti-graft agency were on a mission to arrest the former governor for fraud-related charges.

Recall that in March, the EFCC charged Yahaya Bello, his nephew Ali, and some of his aides to the Federal High Court in Abuja over an N84 billion money laundering case. While Yahaya Bello refused to appear in court,  Ali Bello and Dauda Sulaiman pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Thereafter, the Kogi state government called on the anti-graft agency to be transparent and as well justify the motive behind the charge. In addition, the High Court of Justice, Lokoja division in suit HCL/68M/2024 between Yahaya Bello v. EFCC, constrained the commission and its officials from arresting the former governor.

As it stands, the presence of the EFCC at the residence of the former governor negates the court order. Consequently, the already tense scene escalated with the arrival of the state governor to the cheer of supporters who were also present at the scene.
