The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intensifying the crackdown on organized crime and crimes against persons, particularly human trafficking and kidnapping. This comes as police operatives successfully rescued 13 trafficked victims in Kaduna and three kidnapped victims in Ogun State.

.

This was made in a statement released on Sunday, by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) in Abuja by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP emphasized that the police remain dedicated to strengthening national security and curbing criminal activities across the country.

According to the statement, officers attached to the Kaduna State Police Command, acting on intelligence, apprehended three suspects on January 31, 2025. The suspects, identified as Samson Peter (25), Haruna Duniya (45), and Abdulazaq Olawole (58), were arrested while attempting to traffic 13 victims to Oyo State in an unmarked vehicle. The victims were rescued, and investigations are ongoing to uncover further details about the trafficking operation.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation, the Ogun State Police Command successfully raided a kidnappers’ den on January 29, 2025. The kidnappers, responsible for an abduction reported on January 25, engaged police operatives in a gun duel upon sighting them. The confrontation led to the neutralization of five gang members and the rescue of three kidnapped victims. The police also recovered various arms and ammunition, three mobile phones, N5.2 million in cash, and the victims’ vehicles.

Similarly, on January 29 2025, Police operatives attached to the Ogun State Command also carried out a covert operation. During the operation, it located the den of kidnappers responsible for an earlier reported abduction on January 25 2025

While commending the officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), for their bravery and dedication, IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to combating security threats and ensuring the safety of citizens.

However, he urged police officers nationwide to remain relentless in their duties and assured the public of continued efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the country.
