Following the sexual harassment and victimisation allegations levelled against the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti in Ekiti State , Abayomi Fasina, the institution’s governing council has set up a committee to investigate the matter.
The school management had earlier moved to review staff service rules after the investigation which exposed the allegation.
In a statement signed by the university’s spokesperson Folusho Ogunmodede, members of the committee include labour union representatives and concerned parties to the matter.
The constituted 11-member committees were given three weeks to conduct a comprehensive investigation and complete its findings as well as work within the clearly defined terms of reference.
According to the statement, the committee has begun an investigation and has invited relevant parties for a thorough review of the allegation.
The statement reads in part: “As a respected citadel of learning that upholds integrity, fairness, and accountability, FUOYE assures the public that the investigation is progressing as planned.
“We encourage all parties to allow due process to take its course without interference, speculation, or misinformation. Under the leadership of Chairman Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba, OFR, CON, SAN, the Governing Council remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment and misconduct.”
The statement stressed that updates would be given as at when due to ensure accountability and transparency, assuring the institution’s policies to safeguard the rights and well-being of all stakeholders.
