The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on newly-commissioned Detective Assistant Cadets to embrace integrity and discipline as they begin their careers in law enforcement.
Olukoyede made this charge during the Passing Out Parade ceremony for the 169 cadets of Course 5 at the Nigeria Police Mobile Training College, Ende Hills, Nasarawa State.
In a statement made available on the X account of the anti-graft agency on Friday.
Olukoyede emphasized that the cadets had not only undergone rigorous training in law enforcement but were also equipped with knowledge in ethics, discipline, and leadership. He urged them to uphold the EFCC’s core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration in their service to the nation.
“You have been trained not just in law enforcement but also in ethics, discipline, and leadership. These principles will guide you as you embark on your journey as officers of the Commission,” he stated.
Furthermore, he reminded them of the vital role they now play in Nigeria’s anti-corruption fight. Stressing the high level of trust placed in them, he warned against any form of compromise or misconduct in their duties.
“As new officers of the EFCC, you are now critical players in our mission to eradicate economic and financial crimes. The entire nation looks up to you to uphold the highest ethical standards,” he added.
However, Olukoyede acknowledged the challenges that come with their new responsibilities, noting that their work would require resilience and an unwavering commitment to justice. He further assured them that every case investigated, arrest made, or asset recovered would contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s economic and financial system.
“The cases you investigate and the financial crimes you uncover will not only fulfill the EFCC’s mission but also benefit the Nigerian people,” he said.
While emphasizing the importance of their role, the EFCC boss pointed out that the nation’s future depends on the relentless fight against corruption and financial crimes.
“Nigeria relies on the EFCC to address corruption, enhance economic stability, and combat cybercrime. The Commission remains a beacon of hope in ensuring financial transparency,” he noted.
In a related development, Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, in his speech , commended the EFCC’s efforts in tackling corruption in the country. He emphasized the need for adequate manpower and collective national support to strengthen the fight against financial crimes.
While also highlighting his administration’s commitment to supporting the Commission’s work.
“Recognizing the EFCC’s critical role, Nasarawa State has withdrawn from legal disputes against its statutory powers. We need agencies like the EFCC to promote transparency and investor confidence in our economy,” Governor Sule stated.
Similarly, the Chairman of the House Committee on Financial Crimes, Honourable Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, also urged the new cadets to remain professional and uphold integrity. He stressed further the importance of public participation in exposing financial crimes.
“You must encourage citizens to report suspicious transactions and protect whistle-blowers. By fostering a culture of integrity, we can collectively combat corruption and ensure a stable financial system,” he said.
On the other hand, Senator Diket Plang, representing the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, described the EFCC as a major force in shaping Nigeria’s global image as he assured the Commission of continued legislative support to strengthen its operations.
“The EFCC is a key institution that has earned Nigeria respect in the international community. The Senate remains committed to providing the necessary legal framework for its success,” he affirmed.
He further advised the newly-inducted officers to be mindful of their actions, reminding them that Nigerians have high expectations of them.
“As you assume your new responsibilities, remain patriotic, disciplined, and dedicated to national service,” he urged.
Meanwhile, the Commandant of the Police Mobile Training College, DCP Sunday Peter, congratulated the cadets and urged them to apply their training diligently in their service.
“We are handing them over to you, sir. Let them go forth and help cleanse society of elements that hinder our national progress,” he said.
Among the 169 cadets, eleven received awards for outstanding performance in different areas of study and operational activities. Agwuncha Ugochukwu Lotanna emerged as the Best Overall Cadet, while Anani One Melche and Adutu Joy Uyo were named First and Second Runners-up, respectively. Uyo also received the award for Best in Legal Studies.
Additionally, Muhammad Kabir Sanusi was recognized for excellence in Command and Leadership and was also named the Best Cadet in Drill. Other award recipients included Lawal Lawrence (Best in Operational Studies), Oguzi Promise Yefia (Best in General Studies), and Abbah Favour Billy (Best in ICT). Furthermore, Joshua Princewill and Oviangbede Precious were named Best Marksman and Best Markswoman, respectively.
