Nigerian journalist, Abdulwaheed Sofiullahi has been honoured as one of the winners of the 2025 Kavli Global Science Journalism Award in the United States of America (USA).

Sofiullahi received the award recognition at the annual event gathering science journalists and experts from around the world organized by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Boston, USA.

According to his post, he was the only African awardee in 2025 and the second Nigerian journalist to ever receive this global honour, stressing that it was a defining moment of his career.

“It reinforces my commitment to impactful journalism—telling the stories that matter, uncovering hidden truths, and amplifying voices that often go unheard.

“Since its inception in 1945, the AAAS Science Journalism Awards have celebrated excellence in reporting across science, engineering, and mathematics. With the support of The Kavli Foundation, the awards have expanded globally, recognizing outstanding science journalism worldwide.

“A huge thank you to Wits Center for Journalism for their funding support, and to my incredible team at HumAngle Media for their editorial guidance and unwavering belief in this work.

“This is more than just an award—it’s a reminder of the power of journalism to inform, inspire, and drive change. Here’s to many more impactful stories ahead!” Sofiullahi said.
