The Kano Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), CE Ibrahim Shazali, has called on public servants in Jigawa State to embrace integrity, accountability, and transparency in their official duties.
Shazali made the call on Tuesday while presenting a paper titled “Corrupt Practices and Punishments in Government Businesses” at a three-day sensitization workshop organized by the Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (JSPCACC) in Dutse.
In his address, Shazali underscored the damaging effects of corruption on national development and warned that offenders could face imprisonment, asset forfeiture, and disqualification from public office under Nigeria’s anti-corruption laws. He urged public servants to lead by example and actively report suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
Commending the JSPCACC for organizing the workshop, the EFCC director congratulated the commission on its one-year anniversary, describing its establishment as a timely and strategic move to strengthen ethical governance.
“I appreciate the leadership of the Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission for putting together this event. It is an important step toward educating public servants about corruption and promoting accountability in government,” Shazali said.
He further emphasized that the JSPCACC would complement federal anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in the fight against corruption.
Describing corruption as a “common enemy,” Shazali stressed that it threatens governance, economic growth, and public trust. He highlighted various forms of corruption, including bribery, embezzlement, procurement fraud, abuse of office, and favoritism, which he said undermine development and efficiency in government.
“As public servants, we have a collective responsibility to combat this menace and uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and integrity,” he added.
