Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to embrace charity and generosity as the holy month of Ramadan begins.

His message was contained in a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account following the announcement of the moon sighting by the President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs.

Atiku reiterated the importance of extending acts of kindness beyond immediate families, he urged Muslims to emulate the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

He stated, “It is important that in Ramadan, we extend our hands of charity and affection far beyond our immediate families. The lifestyle of the noble Prophet Muhammed (SAW) should be our guide, as he taught us the immense benefits of being generous, especially during the month of Ramadan.”

He also used the opportunity to call for prayers for Nigeria and urged the government at all levels to take proactive steps in easing the economic hardships faced by citizens.

According to him, “I therefore urge that we remember Nigeria in our prayers and urge governments at all levels to provide the necessary succour that will ease the pains in the lives of Nigerians during the Ramadan fasting and beyond.”

Stressing the economic challenges facing Nigerians, Atiku noted the need for palliatives to support the people. “Nigerians are passing through harsh economic situations, and it is necessary that governments provide palliatives to support the people to alleviate their living conditions,” he added.

The PDP chieftain further appealed to authorities to implement measures that will cushion the effects of economic difficulties during the fasting period and beyond.
