The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking, arresting multiple suspects across the country.

This was contained in a statement released yesterday by the Director of Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi.

In a recent publication on it’s official website, among those apprehended was a 42-year-old Angolan businessman, Mbala Dajou Abuba, who excreted 120 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.829 kilograms after being placed under observation at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).

Abuba was allegedly said in attempting to smuggle the drugs to Turkey via Egypt Air.

Similarly, the Lagos state operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) arrested Okeke Ebuka Igwe, an auto spare parts dealer, for attempting to ship 1.10 kilograms of cocaine concealed in vehicle propellers to Angola.

“A similar attempt by an auto spare parts dealer, Okeke Ebuka Igwe, to send two parcels of 1.10kg cocaine concealed in vehicle propellers to Angola through the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos, was thwarted by NDLEA operatives who arrested him on Monday 24th February following credible intelligence”, he said.

Additionally, at the Tincan Seaport, authorities intercepted 128 parcels of Canadian Loud cannabis weighing 63.75 kilograms, hidden inside two mattresses in a Toyota Venza imported from Canada. The consignee, 44-year-old Bamidele Joseph, was taken into custody.

Several other arrests were made across different states, including the seizure of 5.40 kilograms of cocaine in Imo, 1,409.5 kilograms of cannabis in Edo, and 1,111 kilograms of skunk in Delta.

In Zamfara, Ayuba Mustapha, 30, was caught with 24,700 tramadol pills, while in Borno, Mustapha Shettima, 50, was found with 31 kilograms of skunk and 1,000 tramadol pills.

The agency also intercepted drugs in Oyo, Kwara, and Osun states.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers for their relentless efforts in both drug supply reduction and demand reduction.

Buba Marwa stated that their operational successes and those of their compatriots across the country especially their balanced approach to drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts are well appreciated, he said.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to eradicating illicit drug activities through continued nationwide operations and awareness campaigns.
