The Federal Government of Nigeria has revealed plans to empower 10 million women by 2027. The Minister for Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim offered insight into the plans of the FG during a recent event to commemorate International Women’s Day.

As revealed, the minister said the empowerment program is part of the focus of the FG to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2030. The minister narrated that when women are financially literate, they can influence their economic decisions and secure their family’s future.

Further, Ibrahim emphasized the need for decisive action to boost financial literacy which can make women change-makers in society. She also identified barriers hindering women’s full participation in the economy, including limited access to credits, among other barriers.

Additionally, the minister called for urgent intervention to address challenges hindering women from participating fully in the development of the economy. Ibrahim hinted that the FG is fully committed to creating more opportunities for women to support the Nigerian economy.

Similarly, the Director General of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), Emomotimi Agama stated that financial education is key to empowering women.

Agama noted that women must be educated and brought to the forefront of national recognition when it comes to the capital market. Furthermore, the director general commended the minister for her commitment to empower and drive financial literacy among women.

Meanwhile, Agama added that the partnership between SEC and the Ministry of Women Affairs would help educate women in the country for the sustainable and economic growth of Nigeria.
