NDLEA officers’ welfare remains my priority – Marwa

The Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of officers, emphasizing their physical and mental well-being as crucial to the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

Marwa made this pledge while commissioning a state-of-the-art fitness center at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja recently.

He described the facility as a testament to his dedication to ensuring NDLEA personnel are in optimal health, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

He said, “The fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking is not just about intelligence and strategy; it also requires physical endurance, agility, and resilience,” Marwa stated. “Our work demands long hours of surveillance, enforcement operations, and high-risk engagements. To meet these challenges, we must stay in top form to protect society from the dangers of illicit drugs.”

He stressed that regular exercise should not be seen as a luxury but a necessity, as fitness enhances operational effectiveness, reduces stress, and improves decision-making under pressure. Beyond physical readiness, he noted that exercise helps prevent lifestyle-related diseases and sharpens mental focus.

“This fitness center is more than just a gym; it is an investment in our most valuable asset—our people. We aim to replicate similar facilities across zonal and state commands as funds permit. I encourage all personnel in Abuja to maximize the use of this facility, not just as a structure but as a place of transformation,” he added.

Marwa, however, urged officers to see the commissioning of the facility as a reminder that their work requires them to be at their best physically, mentally, and professionally.

“As we commission this centre today, let it serve as a constant reminder that our work requires the best version of ourselves physically, mentally, and professionally. Together, let us continue to build an NDLEA that is strong, resilient, and ever-ready to fulfill its mandate”, he stated.
