Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Ifon Ilobu and Erin Osun communities. Adeleke, to curb the spread of the crisis had earlier announced a curfew between 6pm to 6am daily.

According to an official statement, the governor had initially imposed a 12-hour curfew to tackle the crisis that displaced many residents of the affected communities. Most of those affected were stranded on the streets of Okinni on Saturday, including some traveling northerners.

Recall that the communities have been at odds over land disputes which resulted in killings and loss of properties. The report says that three persons have been killed including an ex-councillor.

Several people have also reportedly sustained gunshot wounds causing displacement for thousands of women and children in the area.

The state government in response charged all security agencies to ensure strict compliance with the curfew until peace is restored. However, Adeleke expresses his sympathy for the lives and properties lost in the crisis, assuring that the perpetrators will be punished.

So far, the governor has played a huge role in ensuring peace in the affected communities. Adeleke has set up a peace committee to ensure the dispute comes to an end while deploying agencies to strategic areas.

On Saturday, Adeleke threatened to suspend traditional rulers in the state if the crisis escalates in the communities. He stated this after meeting with service commanders of the various security agencies in the states to restore peace in the communities.

He also urged security agencies to act on all the resolutions of the aggrieved party as he pledged his support for peace moves.
