Delta PPRO urges parents to train children properly to curb crime

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, has called on parents and guardians to instill discipline in their children as a means of reducing crime in society.

Edafe made this appeal in a post on his official X account, expressing concern over the increasing rate of criminal activities and the number of weapons recovered by the police within two weeks.

In his post, the police spokesperson lamented the changing social values, recalling a time when even outsiders could discipline a child without resistance. He noted that the lack of proper training has contributed to the rise of societal vices, with many young people growing up to become threats to public safety.

“One thing I have come to realize as a PPRO is that the police work day and night to ensure that we sleep with our two eyes closed. But what’s the problem exactly? When I was small, even an outsider could discipline me, but these days it does not happen. These kids grow up and become a menace to society,” he wrote.

Edafe further urged parents to take responsibility for raising their children properly, emphasizing that a well-trained child is less likely to engage in criminal activities. He expressed shock over the number of illegal weapons seized in recent weeks, stating that at times he feels ashamed posting such discoveries.

“Imagine these recoveries in two weeks only. At times I even feel ashamed posting all these weapons. These criminals, were they not trained, or were they just destined for destruction?” he questioned.

The police spokesperson’s statement comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat crime in Delta State. The police have intensified operations against cultism, armed robbery, and other criminal activities, leading to several arrests and recoveries of dangerous weapons.
