The Oyo State Government began a clamp down on illegal buildings, shacks and indifferent truck parking along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway toll gate and areas under high-tension power lines on Thursday.

During the operation, CP Sunday Odukoya(retd.), the Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde told journalist that the activity was crucial to avoid accident and other safety hazards caused by different activities along the highway.

CP Sunday Odukoya said, “This enforcement is crucial to prevent loss of lives and the dangers posed by indiscriminate trailer parking on the highway.”

Major Adekoya Adesagba(retd.), the Chairman of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, explained that the operation was a collective effort directed at addressing environmental and security hazards along the state highways.

Abass Ademola, a representative of the Diesel Sellers Association reacted to this development by pleading with the government to offer alternative location for those involved. He also noted that this activity might lead to unemployment and a rise in insecurity.

The operation was carried out by a joint task force including the Federal Road Safety Corps, Operational Bust, Amotekun, Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, Environmental Officers, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
