Another gas explosion that occurred in Lagos has left about 15 people suffering from varying degrees of injuries.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue, Margaret Adeseye disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. She noted that the explosion happened in Ijora Badia, Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area of the state.
Adeseye revealed that a gas leak from a mini shop as a result of poor handling of gas products, led to the explosion.
Narrating the details of the gas explosion, the Director explained that a nearby flame ignited the gas leak from this shop on Sunday afternoon, leading to the explosion.
In addition, she noted that it involved a 25kg gas cylinder in a mini shop that housed five similar cylinders. Additionally, the shop was located within a bungalow which had 15 self-contained rooms and seven other shops.
As a result of the explosion, 15 people suffered burn injuries that were not life-threatening and fortunately, they recorded no death. She added that while several victims received first aid at the scene, they transported others to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
However, Adeseye affirmed that the fire was swiftly extinguished while the remains of the gas cylinders were evacuated.
Furthermore, she explained that the combined efforts of officials from different sectors helped to repress the fire. They included firefighters from the Sari Iganmu Fire Station, officials from LASEMA, the Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps, and LASAMBUS, the state’s emergency medical service.
The Lagos State Government has recorded this incident as the second gas explosion to occur in the state in 2025.
A few weeks ago, four people lost their lives to gas explosion at the Otedola Bridge at Lagos- Ibadan road in the state. This explosion also left several others injured.
