The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party (LP) has pledged to sanction 2023 LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi. NEC disclosed that Peter Obi will be sanctioned if he holds his stakeholder’s meeting or undermines the activities of the party.

The development was announced at the end of a NEC meeting held at the party’s national Secretariat in Abuja yesterday.According to the party’s secretary, Umar Farouk, Obi and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti had been trying to break down the party’s leadership.

Farouk accused Obi of knowing Otti’s plan of destabilizing the party, he emphasized that the party can no longer tolerate his undermining activities. Earlier, Abure and Peter Obi had reportedly called for separate meetings to discuss the party’s future following the court judgment on Friday.

While Abure held his meeting in Abuja on Monday, Peter Obi moved his summit to Wednesday to an undisclosed venue. The move by the former presidential candidate is reportedly a counter-move to sway the loyalty of the NEC Executives.

As a result, Abure described them as betrayals, noting that there wouldn’t be any vacancy for them in the party. On the flip side, the national coordinator of the obedient movement worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, has dismissed the defection rumor of Obi.

Tanko disclosed that the former presidential candidate is still a member of the party despite his defection speculations. Tanko, on Channels Television Morning program, on Monday, remarked that the party will soon clarify its position following the recent Supreme Court ruling.

He stated that there plans to organize a meeting make fundamental positions clear to everyone and put the rumor to rest. Lastly, the national coordinator insisted that Obi has not joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) emphasizing that the news is false. Tanko’s reaction comes after SDP Presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo stated that Obi and Atiku Abubakar are planning for possible defection.
