Hamzat advocates curriculum overhaul to groom future leaders

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has called for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s secondary school curriculum, emphasizing its pivotal role in grooming the next generation of leaders.

Hamzat made this call while speaking at the 80th Anniversary of Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo State.

He said, “To prepare leaders who can navigate this future, we must redesign the curriculum, the environment, and the expectations of secondary education. We must rethink, reimagine, and reinvest.”

According to the deputy governor, secondary education is not a mere transitional phase in students’ educational sojourn but a leadership training ground where minds are molded, visions are birthed, and characters are sculpted.

While speaking on the role of secondary school education in building future leaders, Hamzat noted that no nation can rise above the quality of its teaching, and no generation can transcend the leadership limitations of its youth.

To make secondary schools a learning ground for future leaders, Hamzat urged private sectors, development partners, community leaders, and other education stakeholders to align with the vision of a secondary school system where classrooms will be the new chambers of leadership formation.

“Let us commit ourselves, educators, parents, governments, private sector actors, and alumni to make our secondary schools the launchpad of Nigeria’s renaissance,” Hamzat added.
