The Osun State Police Command has arrested eight suspected members of a notorious gang of hoodlums who specialise in motorcycle theft.
According to The Hope, suspects were alleged to have used spare keys to remove motorcycles from where owners had parked them.
In a bid to rid the state of criminal elements, it was gathered that police operatives attached to the State’s Commissioner of Police’s Monitoring Unit arrested one Olowookere Ojo Mojeed (M), 27, on April 11, 2025, at the Ogo-Oluwa area of Osogbo, the state capital.
The police revealed that the arrest followed a report that the suspect was caught with a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, with registration number EDT 155 QF, which had been stolen from where it was parked by its owner.
It was reportedly learned that diligent police investigation led to the recovery of two additional motorcycles including TVS and Bajaj from the suspect.
Meanwhile, the suspect confessed to being a member of a syndicate that specialises in stealing motorcycles parked by their rightful owners.
Reports indicated that detectives, not resting on their oars, swiftly moved to the Shasha area of Osogbo the same day at about 8:30 p.m. and arrested one Hammed Jelili, 38, in his hideout. Six spare motorcycle keys used for their operations were recovered from him.
The Police swiftly moved to the Brewery area of Ibadan, Oyo State, upon discreet investigation where the receiver of the stolen motorcycles, one Oguntade Segun, 64, was arrested.
He confessed to having bought four different motorcycles from the gang at prices ranging from ₦250,000 to ₦300,000.
Police sources revealed that further investigation led to the arrest of one Arobadi Michael, 30, who was responsible for delivering the stolen motorcycles to the receiver.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the suspects will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.
The Police Command called on individuals whose motorcycles were stolen or robbed to visit the CP’s Monitoring Unit at the State Headquarters, Osogbo, for identification, warning criminals to vacate the state or face the full wrath of the law.
