Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested two suspected car thieves and rejected a N1m bribe offered in a bid to escape justice.

The suspects were caught in possession of a reportedly stolen vehicle, alongside other exhibits recovered from them, during a routine patrol.

This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, and made available to journalists in Katsina.

According to the statement, “On April 11, 2025, at about 3:00pm, officers attached to Border Patrol Zone 4, Katsina, while on routine patrol along Birnin Kuka village, Mashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, intercepted a green Toyota Corolla LE, driven by one Mubarak Kabir, aged 26, and Adamu Hashim, aged 27, both residents of Kurna quarters, Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State.”

It was during preliminary investigation that police discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“In an attempt to evade justice, the suspects offered a bribe of one million naira in cash to the patrol team, which was outrightly rejected,” the statement added.

The suspects are currently in police custody.

Exhibits recovered from the duo included the suspected stolen Toyota Corolla, N1,000,000 in cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and a bunch of keys.

DSP Sadiq noted that investigations were ongoing to uncover the full extent of the suspects’ criminal involvement, promising that more updates would be provided as the case progresses.

Commending the officers for their professionalism and integrity, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, praised their unwavering commitment to upholding the law.

He further reiterated the Command’s resolve to protect lives and property in the state while maintaining integrity and respect for human rights.
