The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa, has commenced the dualization of the Akure-Idanre road, saying that one of his major campaign promises while contesting for the position of governor of Ondo has been implemented.

The governor promised to complete the road project during his administration.

This was made known during the flag-off ceremony of the road project held on Wednesday at the Arakale-Oke-Aro junction, Akure.

According to the report, the project was to highlight the modern traffic system and solar-powered streetlights. The project was also developed to accommodate heavy vehicular traffic with a strong pavement structure and a 28-meter-wide carriageway.

Ayedatiwa said, “This project stands as a powerful testimony to the resolve of our administration to build an Ondo State where opportunities are not just promised but are accessible, a place where every citizen can thrive in an environment of progress and shared prosperity.”

Ayedatiwa noted that the construction is in line with his administration’s 7-point development agenda known as “OUR EASE.” He added that the Akure-Idanre road is a major trade route that is plagued with congestion, delays, and safety hazards because of its outdated single-carriageway.

“For what has seemed like an eternity, this road has been a source of daily frustration for commuters and a bottleneck for the movement of agricultural produce from Idanre to Akure’s markets. Today, we begin to change that story.”

While assuring residents that the project will be completed to the highest standard and within the timeframe, Ayedatiwa described the project as a path to unlocking the immense potential of the state.

He noted that after the completion of the road, the iconic Idanre Hill will become a tourist attraction center, and it will boost economic growth through increased connectivity, trading, job opportunities, and ease of movement.

Ayedatiwa special adviser on infrastructure, lands, and housing reacts to the development

Similarly, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, Olawoye Abiola, has also praised the Governor for focusing on important infrastructure probably throughout the state.

Abiola said, “The commencement of this project shows the governor’s clear focus on delivering impactful developments that will benefit our people for generations. The dualization of the Akure-Idanre Road is a strategic move to ease transportation, enhance safety, and stimulate economic growth.”

Also, the Chairman of the Akure South Local Government, Gbenga Fasua, in his goodwill message, described the event as a memorable and exceptional day for the people of Akure.
