The Edo State Government has removed three traditional rulers across Etsako West and Etsako East Local Government Areas over alleged violations of traditional norms and legal procedures.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Benin City, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Umar Ikhilor, confirmed the development, stating that the decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday, April 29.

Among those affected is Umoru Inusa Umoru, who was relieved of his position as the Aidenogie of South Ibie in Etsako West of Edo State. According to Ikhilor, the removal followed findings that the stool was never officially vacant before his appointment.

“The Aidenogie stool of South Ibie was not legally vacant prior to the purported installation of Umoru Inusa Umoru,” Ikhilor stated.

Following Umoru’s removal, Alhaji Aliyu Kelvin Danesi was reinstated as the rightful occupant of the Aidenogie stool.

In a related development, Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor was also removed as the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom in Agenebode, located in Etsako East. His removal was reportedly linked to persistent security challenges in the area.

“Egabor’s suspension and subsequent removal became necessary due to repeated incidents of kidnappings and killings within his domain,” the statement noted.

The government further revealed that preparations are underway for the proper and lawful selection of new traditional leaders for the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella and the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom.

Citizens in the affected communities were urged to remain calm and cooperate with authorities.

“The government remains committed to upholding peace, unity, and the rule of law in all communities of Edo State,” Ikhilor added.
